Biochemist at the University of Ontario has developed a conceptual device – contact lenses that change color depending on the level of glucose in the blood. Lenses are made of composite hydrogel and reacts with molecules of glucose in tear fluid. The change of color can be used to measure glucose levels.
While the inventor has to deal with different issues: how long you can wear these lenses without discomfort, I will need to have the recipe, do not think the fact that conventional glucometer process is faster, but still need to put the lens in the eye. Nevertheless, this is a serious and promising development, which has a great future.
