New domain zone .lat
Latin America’s countries asked ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) to open new domain zone .lat. This happened right after the appearance of the .asia domain zone.
Internet related conference in Rio de Janeiro leaded to the conclusion of opening .lat domain zone. Opening of the new domain zone should increase Internet popularity in Latina America.
ICANN will think about this question in 2008. Today there is only two “geographical” domain zone in Internet: .asia and .eu
